Climate watch

A citizen science program started by Audubon in 2016 exploring how North American birds are responding to climate change.

Our target species is the red-breasted nuthatch.

We go to the same location 2 times a year and count how many birds we hear and see for 5 minutes.

Puget Sound seabird study

Coordinated and managed by Puget Sound Bird Observatory.

It takes place from October thru April.

We have 2 sites: Jensen Point and Tahlequah.

The birds we record have to be in the water in order for them to be counted. We record their location within a specific radius for 30 minutes.

Fourth grade birding program

The program was started by Carol Ferch, a teacher at Chautauqua, in 1990.

The program is still going strong with partnerships between Vashon Bird Alliance, Vashon Nature Center, Vashon Artists in the School and Partners in Education.
